Almost Christmas!

It's about 11:30pm as I type... we just got back from our Christmas Eve outing.

I never would have expected to have had such an enjoyable Christmas in Haiti... I think being with Samuel was "enough" for us going into this. So the rest is a complete blessing; we feel touched that we have been able to spend time with the people who are raising SC and also that we have been able to "participate" in the culture. I think being here during such a special holiday has given us a glimpse of what giving people John & Dixie truly are... and at the same time, open to growing and getting better at what they do.

So... Tonight.

Holy cow... calling it a "feast" was an understatement. I think all of us consumed ~5 times what we should have! I think we all left feeling like we should walk the 5 miles home! There was turkey, lasagna, ham, stuffing, mashes potatoes, corn soufflé, broccoli, sweet potatoes, gravy and cranberries! And if that wasn't enough... there was an assortment of cookies, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and real egg nog. Good grief... where are those tums?!

Oh, and tomorrow we have been given orders to show up at 10am for a Haitian breakfast, made up of egg quiche, sausage and Christmas bread? And then another buffet thing at 3pm with goat (hmmm, haven't had that as an option since Greece), Ham, fish, and 3 kinds of rice (of which that staff was "sorting" all day yesterday.)

So after dinner we had a candlelight service... we read from the Bible, sang Christmas songs and then just talked and shared various stories for a couple of hours. It was comfortable and the Trimble's house is quite lovely... they were great hosts and we feel honored to have been a part of the evening.

Okay... I am officially tired out and must go to bed...  I can't wait to see the faces of the employees when they get their gifts from Dixie tomorrow!  We figured it is about $30 worth of food and then $20 worth of the donation items...  such a wonderful Christmas for them all.

Merry Christmas!

  2. Merry Christmas Joe and Jill. We love you both very very much and are so very proud of both of you. I pray that next Christmas we can all be together with SC in Oregon to celebrate. Give him a big Christmas hug and kiss from gma and gpa for us.
